Adam Starks is an English writer, director, and actor from Portsmouth UK. He started his film career in 2012 to create independent films under the aegis of his production house, Starks Films. His first feature film was a low budget fantasy movie with a run time of 180 minutes. So far, some of the most notable films he has created are The Beast of Bodmin Moor, Low Flyers and The Art of War, that sold out its premiere screening tickers at Vue Cinemas in Cambridge. After the release of his movie Low Flyers on Amazon Prime, he announced the production of Low Flyers 2 in late 2019. His latest film is a spine-chilling horror movie, titled “The Understanding” that began its production in January this year and anticipated to be released in August 2019.

In this exclusive interview, Adam talks about his journey so far into the film industry and his latest projects.

Interviewer: Give us a brief about your background and early life?

Adam Starks:

I grew up in a working-class family just outside of Portsmouth in the UK, I left school at 16 and went straight into work on building sites which I did for a few years, the money was good at the time and it gave me a chance to prepare financially for the future and I often did other jobs part-time as well like delivering pizzas and shop work. I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a career so I went to University when I was 18 to do a degree in Health and Fitness which I have always been passionate about. When I graduated I opened my own health shop, it wasn’t open that long before I decided to sell up and ended up falling into film making.

Interviewer: What inspired you to join the film industry?

Adam Starks:

Well, I’ve always really enjoyed films although I never thought I’d be able to make a living out of it, at best I thought I might be able to do it as a hobby which is how it started. So I never set out to join the film industry, I just wanted to entertain myself and maybe a few other people along the way, what really motivates me is the enjoyment of making it in all aspects whether its writing, directing or editing I enjoy it all. A couple of my favorite movies are  The Lord of the Rings, The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, Stand By Me along with a lot of the classic action movies from the 80’s and 90’s like Judge Dredd, Street Fighter and the Rocky movies, all these have in some way inspired me to make films.

Interviewer: What are your favorite projects so far?

Adam Starks:

I would have to say Low Flyers, it was so much fun and we were laughing a lot throughout the making of it, I get emails all the time from people telling me they liked it which is nice too. I enjoyed it so much that it’s the first time I’ve ever wanted to do a sequel. The Understanding is runner up, this one has been really fun too and hopefully, it does as well as Low Flyers.

Interviewer: Tell us something about the upcoming horror film The Understanding?

Adam Starks:

It’s intended to please both horror fans and our already existing followers. We’ve used both old and new horror themes and techniques to make this movie, it will be both scary and gory!

Interviewer: Do you have any other film projects in the pipeline?

Adam Starks:

I’ve always got movies in the pipeline, several scripts are completed so hopefully everything falls into place after the release of The Understanding and we can go straight into pre-production.
