Applique Music celebrates a century of releases with “Turnin’ Trix”

Label boss Lempo and EDM Tips head honcho, Will Darling combine forces to deliver the labels 100th release, “Turnin’ Trix” featuring Princess Superstar on vocals and K-Klass on remix duty.

Lempo says: “We couldn’t let such a milestone pass without doing something special to acknowledge the achievement. I had the idea to write a track that highlights the hustle of running an independent label, “Turnin’ Trix” is about surviving in the music industry, doing whatever it takes. We’ve come a long way!

Now in their 9th year, the Manchester imprint is seeing continued success on the download stores with over twenty number one sellers since launching in July 2011. It could only be Lempo that should mark the occasion of 100th releases and even more befitting that he should be collaborating with the labels mastering engineer, Will Darling. The featured artist, Princess Superstar and remixers, K-Klass also have history with Applique Music.

Mike McGuinness, professionally known as Lempo is the founder of Applique Music. A Grammy-shortlisted DJ, producer and writer, Mike’s music career began in 2006 with residencies at Manchester’s now legendary Sankeys and Venus nightclubs. His success has seen him perform for global club brands including Ministry of Sound, Cream and The Warehouse Project. Mike is also the host of the ‘Twisted Melon’ radio show syndicated on Cafe Mambo Radio and Data Transmission. As a producer Mike has remixed household names such as Snoop Dogg, Dawn Penn and General Levy, as well as being signed to prestigious New York labels, Strictly Rhythm (BMG) and Todd Terry’s InHouse Records. Mike has collaborated with many industry leading artists, including Artful Dodger, MC Flipside, Roland Clark and Ruff Diamond. Lempo’s output has seen placements with brands such as BBC, Channel 4, X-Factor and Disney.

Originally hailing from the Isle of Wight, Will Darling has held the role of mastering engineer for Applique Music since 2014. His music has had international acclaim from the likes of Chic, The Freemasons and Future Music magazine. Will has worked with artists such as Joey Negro, Ron Carroll, Kris Menace and Katherine Ellis. Will is also the face of EDM Tips – an online school dedicated to helping dance music producers around the globe.

Concetta Kirschner, better known as Princess Superstar, is a vocalist from New York City. She has had two notable hit singles, “Bad Babysitter” (No.1 in U.K.Top 40) and “Perfect (Exceeder)” (No.3 in U.K.Top 40). Her dance smash with Larry Tee “Licky” was also featured in two blockbuster movies, “Get him to the Greek” and “Hall Pass”. Concetta performed on Lempo’s “Triumph”, which was released on Applique Music in 2016 – now she’s back delivering the goods with a powerful vocal performance on “Turnin’ Trix”.

Manchester based Paul Roberts and Russell Morgan, better known as K-Klass, provide the remix package. The legendary ‘Cream’ Residents & house music pioneers are responsible for some of the scenes most iconic tracks, such as “Rhythm is a Mystery” (No.3 in U.K.Top 40) and “Let Me Show You” (No.13 in U.K.Top 40). K-Klass have been part of the Applique Music family from day one, having previously released “Just Come” with Todd Terry and “Brass Attack” a collaboration with Lempo in 2013. Their remix for “Turnin’ Trix” is sure to be a favourite with tech house DJ’s – chopping the original into new grooves with the vocal hook seamlessly blended into a satisfying dub.

“Turnin’ Trix” is a Beatport exclusive from 6th March 2020 and will be available on general release from 20th March 2020.
